The Game Boy Advance (often shortened to
GBA) is a 32-bit handheld video game console developed, manufactured
and marketed by Nintendo. It was released in 2001 and features
backward compatability with all Game Boy and GBC games. In
early 2003, Nintendo introduced the Game Boy Advance SP, a
new model with a backlit screen, a rechargeable battery, and
smaller clamshell design. A third model, the tiny Game Boy
Micro, followed in 2005, lacking any backward compatability.
The GBA has sold over 81.1 million units worldwide.
